This course provides the foundation for media production concepts and techniques: design, camerawork, production, lighting, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Premiere, and writing for a specific audience. The course will consist of dynamic, creative short projects that explore these fundamental components. Students will be assessed on their ability to grasp these new skills while also learning from past mistakes.
This course does not repeat. Students who wish to continue exploring their skills will be well positioned to study Yearbook Design & Publication, Advanced Media Production, and Photography & Graphic Design.
Student work may contribute to www.jesuitnews.com or JCTV.

This course offers an introduction to digital photography and graphic design. The course focuses on learning to use a DSLR camera (exposure and composition), post-production through Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom, as well as lighting for studio photography. Students serve as photojournalists for the school: each season, students will be assigned to take photos at specific school events for inclusion in the newspaper, yearbook and other publications. Students will also learn the fundamentals of design through posters and other created content to be displayed around the school.
Attendance at certain events outside of school hours is required. This course fulfills one year of an elective graduation requirement.

This course allows students to further explore their passion for photography, video production, news writing and reporting, etc. Students will build upon current knowledge of the Adobe programs (Photoshop, Premiere, Lightroom, InDesign) while further developing an understanding for quality and audience. The course will produce the primary content for www.jesuitnews.com as well as develop content and package materials for broadcasts through JCTV. Students will produce written articles, podcasts, video segments, and live content. Students must be open to significant collaboration, as it will be central to the course. Students must be able to hit deadlines.

Yearbook Design and Publication is a full-year course in which students are responsible for producing the school annual, The Insignis. Students learn the skills of page layout, copywriting, and basic photography. In addition, students oversee the business management of the annual.
Of primary importance for all students is the ability to meet deadlines.
Students may enroll in this course for a second and third year, as different skills will be required each year.
