The following courses allow students to round out their education through work otherwise not readily available in the classroom.
Financial Literacy (Required Summer Course)
Open to: 12th Grade
Course Length: Special--Summer Online

This online course is taken over the summer, and must be completed by all seniors prior to graduation. The course does not count towards the 51 credits required for graduation, but will appear on the student’s transcript as Pass/Fail. It is a self-paced course intended to give students an introduction to personal finance. Topics for study include: ‘Foundations of Money,’ ‘College and Money,’ ‘FAFSA,’ ‘Loan Guidance,’ ‘Earning Money,’ ‘Credit and Protecting Your Money,’ ‘Spending and Borrowing,’ ‘Debt and Repayment,’ and ‘Future of Your Money.' This course is required for graduation.
Freshman Seminar
Open to: 9th grade

Freshman seminar participants master current, brain-based strategies for effective learning and test-taking throughout their years at Jesuit. Using leading-edge educational research, the class will focus on the most efficient ways to take notes, memorize material, manage time, minimize distractions, utilize technology and prepare for exams. Additionally, students in this class receive a high level of individualized mentoring and support as new students navigating a challenging, college-prep environment; teachers conference regularly with individual students and connect with a student’s other teachers and parents at regular intervals. Students will also have class time to work on assignments and get individual tutoring. Finally, freshman seminar participants will gain insight about their own learning preferences and profiles, and think critically about character and habits as they pertain to becoming a successful student and a person for others. This course fulfills one year of an elective graduation requirement.
Magis Seminar
Open to: All grades

Magis Seminar is a supported study period available by administrative/counselor placement only. Students receive a pass/fail grade. Students in Magis Seminar develop executive function skills in the practical context of completing graduation requirements (academic coursework, Christian Service requirements, and credit recovery coursework.) Topics include the following: self-advocacy, time management, organizational skills, task prioritization, project management, communication with teachers, and appropriate use of technology. Students are challenged to better develop the ability to see how present choices are connected to future outcomes. This course fulfills one year of an elective graduation requirement.
Student Government
Open to: Students in elected positions

Course and Grade Prerequisites: Application and election to class office
Student Government is a practicum course in which elected or appointed student body and class officers meet to plan and implement student activities. Students learn the responsibilities of their own elected offices and work together as a cooperative group. Skills students will learn include goal-setting, communication, project-planning, and organization. Students may enroll in the course for a second and third year if re-elected or appointed.This course fulfills one year of an elective graduation requirement.
Campus Ministry, Counseling, Office, or CLARC Aide
Open to: 11th and 12th grades

Course and Grade Prerequisites: Approval from a Vice Principal, and permission of appropriate faculty or staff member
Students may apply to be an aide as a seventh course only (i.e., they cannot take a prep period and this course). Options include Administrative Office, Athletics Department, Campus Ministry Department, Christian Service Department, Counseling Office, Diversity Office, Library, or a particular teacher. Workload and duties vary by position. Students receive a pass/fail grade. This course fulfills one year of an elective graduation requirement.

Freshman Seminar Tutor
Open to Juniors and Seniors. Tutor Freshman Seminar students, leading regularly scheduled small groups in areas like algebra, world history, Spanish, and time management. Tutors will also assist teachers with general school culture questions and serve as mentors to freshman students. All skill levels welcome, but students who can both have fun and keep focus will be most successful. This course is a great opportunity for students considering a career in education, or looking to gain experience and training as a tutor. Students receive a pass/fail grade. This course fulfills one year of an elective graduation requirement. Students may apply to be an Freshman Seminar Tutor as a seventh course only (i.e., they cannot take a prep period and this course).
