Academic Areas
To qualify, students must meet the criteria of scoring in the 96th percentile or higher on one nationally norm-referenced assessment given in the area(s) of General Intellect, Language Arts, Math, Science, and/or Social Studies. Examples of Norm-referenced assessments that can be used include IReady, IOWA, MAP, CogAt, CAT 6, or InView. They also must meet evidence requirements that include; work samples, teacher referrals, anecdotal evidence, etc.
Non-Academic Areas
Students will be identified as gifted and talented in Visual/Performing Arts through a collection of evidence. Evidence may include portfolio assessment, audition rubrics, teacher referrals, recommendations, and behavioral checklists.
Academic Areas
Once identified, students are given opportunities to extend their learning through projects/extensions in the classroom and are also pulled out to meet with the Gifted and Talented teacher to receive additional services in the elementary and middle schools. High schools offer Honors, AP, and Dual Credit opportunities.
Non-Academic Areas
Students who are identified in Leadership, Creativity, Music, Art, Drama, and Dance will be given opportunities throughout the year to help them to reach their fullest potential in their specific talented area. Opportunities may include the District Arts Academy at the elementary/middle school levels, extra-curricular, and school-wide opportunities.
Jessamine County Schools follows the Kentucky Regulations in order to formally identify students for the GT program.
