I have been teaching for 16 years. My first year was 4thgrade and all the rest has been 6th grade science. I have been married to Linda for 31 years. We have three sons, three daughters in law, and three grandchildren. I live on a farm and work there when not teaching science. By the way……….Earth Science Rocks!!!!!!!! In my spare time, I like to grow fruits and vegetables, jog and chase eclipses.
Mr. Shewmaker’s 6th Grade Earth Science Syllabus
I am excited to have your child in science class this semester! So that everyone knows, I would like to inform you of the expectations and procedures for my science class.
Classroom Rules: Supplies needed every day of class:
1: Be on time 1: Pencil or pen
2: Bring needed supplies daily 2: Science or all subject binder
3: Be respectful 3. Chromebook
4: Give your best effort and complete all
assignments

Science Classroom and Equipment:
Do not touch water and gas spigots without permission.
Shower is off-limits unless an emergency occurs.
Animals are not to be touched or disturbed.
All equipment used during activities should be treated with respect.
Be safe and courteous during all activities.
Grading Policy:
Daily work:
Daily Science Review (DSR) is required daily for a weekly grade: 5 points
Assignments and activities will be started in class and normally finished there
Homework occurs when a daily assignment is not completed in class (occasionally)
Projects will be completed both at school and at home depending on the unit
Assignments are expected to be completed and turned in on the due date. There is a 14 day window for late assignments. After that, they will not be accepted.
Unit exams and quizzes:
Students must complete all standards within each quiz or test with an acceptable level of performance (70% or higher).
Before students are allowed to retest, they must prove that they are ready by demonstrating mastery of practice materials.
Students have 2 weeks to retest. If a student chooses not to retest, then the grade will remain that of the first score.
Final/EOT: If one is given-
If students have completed all tests and quizzes to an acceptable level of performance (70% or higher), there should be no problem passing the final/EOS.
