Periods with Dignity
EMPOWERING GIRLS IN GHANA
EMPOWERING GIRLS IN GHANA
Hi! My name is Leila, and for my Girl Scout Gold Award, I’m tackling period poverty by providing Period Care Packages and menstrual health education to teen girls who live in rural Ghana.
In June, I will be traveling to Mampong Methodist J.H.S school with a goal to help girls feel confident about their periods, stay in school, and break the stigma surrounding menstruation.
This project is important to me because I believe that no girl should have to miss school or feel ashamed because of her period.
For many girls in Ghana, getting a period can be a huge challenge—not because of pain, but because they don’t have access to menstrual products, education, or support.
📌 1 in 10 African girls miss school because of their period.
📌 Many have to use unsafe materials instead of proper pads.
📌 Stigma and misinformation make it even harder for girls to ask for help.
By providing both supplies and education, I want to help girls feel confident, stay in school, and take charge of their menstrual health.
To make this project a success, I am collecting the following brand-new items:
🔹 Sanitary pads
🔹 Panty liners
🔹 Mild soap (for washing reusable pads and underwear)
🔹 Hand sanitizer
🔹 Wet Wipes
🔹 Disposable heat packs
🔹 Journals or notebooks (for cycle tracking)
🔹 Herbal tea bags (for cramps)
🔹 Affirmation cards or notes of encouragement
Every donation helps ensure that each girl receives the care and support she needs to manage her period safely and with confidence.
All donated supplies will be delivered to 110 girls between the ages of 11 and 18 who attend the Mampong Methodist J.H.S school in Mampong-Akuapem, Ghana.
These care packages will not only provide essential period products but also empower girls with knowledge and confidence to manage their menstrual health safely. To also make this project sustainable, we are also working with Days for Girls to get these girls kits filled with reusable pads and other necessities, as well as creating a "Dignity Cupboard" filled with menstrual supplies that can be accessed by girls throughout the school day.
📦 Donate Supplies – We are open to picking up any donations from people nearby. For any donation questions, you may text or call the number at the bottom of the page.
