Fall Learning Options Update

Fall Learning Options Update- 10.7.20

For the 2020-2021 school year, Jennings School District is currently operating under Plan A for reopening schools after the school closure this past spring due to COVID-19. Factors that may lead to movement from Plan A to Plan B include an increasing spread of COVID-19 in the area/region, multiple cases of COVID-19 in school, and/or recommendation by public health authorities including stay-at-home orders.

For option 1, when group A attends school in-person on alternating days in a week, Monday/Wednesday/Friday and group B attends school in-person on Tuesday/Thursday. The following week, Group A attends Tuesday/Thursday and Group B attends Monday/Wednesday/Friday. By alternating every other day, the goal is for students to have more frequent face-to-face instruction with teachers and avoid long breaks before they see their teacher(s) in-person again. On the days when students are not in-person, they are participating in virtual learning online working more independently. When students are online learning, they may be participating in a Zoom/Google Meet, watching a lecture/video and taking notes, completing a reading , Khan Academy or IXL activities, or Edgenuity course modules. Option 1 placement will be based on course availability, class size, social distancing, and/or administrative determination.
For option 2, 100% virtual, students will be enrolled in high school but will engage in all learning online from home. All course work will utilize a standard-based curriculum using a Blended Learning Framework. Families that select 100% virtual learning may select to return to in-person learning at the beginning of 2nd semester.

Please note that In the event of a school or district closure, ALL students will participate in 100% virtual learning online with teachers. We will re-evaluate when it is safe to return to school. At that time, if it is safe to do so, we may return to a full time in-person schedule or we may return to the learning option you selected for your student(s).

We are doing daily temperature checks and COVID screenings for staff, students, parents, and visitors when they enter the building. When possible, please make an appointment to visit the building. Be sure to wear face coverings for social distancing. As the district continues to monitor the state of the COVID-19 pandemic, be sure to check your email, school website, and social media for announcements.
