Ed Code - Aging Out by Birthdate
Ed code states that if a student :
Turns 22 years old October 1-December 31
Exit in December (age 22)
Turns 22 years old January 1-September 30
Exit in Spring (those with July, August, and September birthdays will exit at age 21)
What happens after the age of 22?
Day Programs are available for individuals who are clients of the Regional Center, and for those who have exited the school system as per the aforementioned Ed Code. Day Programs are all unique, and finding the right fit for the individual is important. Some considerations are location, ratio of staff to the individual, community activities, employment opportunities, the degree of support offered with daily living skills etc. The ATP Transition Specialist can support students and families with touring Day Programs and coordinating with the Regional Center to support the transition from school. Selecting a Day Program is a decision made between the individual, family, Regional Center, and Day Program. The Regional Center will fund the Day Program and transportation services.
