Prospective Student High School Open House dates
It's a good idea to attend the scheduled open house dates for any high schools you are interested in attending.
October 18th 10:30: Western Middle School for the Arts High School Showcase (during the school day)
October 22nd 6 pm: YPAS Open house (at YPAS)
October 29th 6 pm: Manual Open House (at Manual)
October 30th at 5:30 pm: Central High School Information Night at WMSA in the Library! - hosted by Central staff
November 2nd: JCPS School Showcase at Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center - 9 am-4 pm
November 7th 6:30 pm: Ballard High School Preview Night (at Ballard)
November 11th : High School Application Window Opens
November 14th 5:30 pm: 8th Grade Student Assignment Application Night in WMSA Library
December 20th: High School Application Window Closes

The Basics
Eighth-grade students currently enrolled at a JCPS school will be automatically enrolled in a high school designated by their address (resides) unless they:
Apply and are accepted into another school
Application window is open from November 11, 2024 to December, 20 2024.
Live in the JCPS Choice Zone
If you live in the choice zone, you will need to complete an application to indicate if you want the close-to-home resides option or the far away option.
You can also apply to magnet and academy schools if you live in the choice zone.

View your high school magnet and Academies of Louisville options. Pay special attention to which network you live in. This will determine which network schools are available to you.

- Apply on the JCPS website (link below) by December 20, 2024
*If you choose your resides school:
No application is needed. You will be auto-enrolled.
*If you live in the choice zone:
You can attend either your close-to-home option or a school farther away. An application is required to make your selection.
*If you choose a network (Academy of Louisville) school, magnet school, or magnet program:
If your choice is outside of your resides school boundary, apply during the application period: November 11, 2024 – December 20, 2024
Students who apply during the application period will be notified of the status of their application by April 2024.
If you are applying to a magnet, you will get a 1st choice and a 2nd choice. SOME MAGNETS DO NOT CONSIDER 2ND CHOICE. The school website and/or the actual application should list if the magnet will only accept 1st choice applicants.
