If your child was declined from both 1st and 2nd magnet school choices, there are additional options in addition to your child attending their resides/zone school.

If you have questions about your magnet application if you did not meet criteria for acceptance, you can reach out to the magnet coordinator of the school.

Pathfinder is the online magnet school for JCPS. - application window opens March 31st and closes April 18th. Check out their application info below.

Phoenix School of Discovery - application window opens March 31st and closes April 18th. Phoenix is a choice school specializing in a creative, challenging and diverse learning experience that considers students' specific social, emotional and academic needs. Classes are conducted in a smaller setting. I think this may be a good option for some of our students at WMSA if they prefer a more personalized, smaller setting.
1. Phoenix Application Process
JCPS Transfer - You can put in a transfer to any resides/zone school in JCPS. The window to apply for a transfer is May 5, 2025- March 6, 2026. You will not have a bus to a school you transfer to.
1. Student transfers are determined based on availability and are on a first come, first serve basis. The portal will open at midnight the day of May 5th, and I would highly recommend going in there at midnight or as early as possible to put in your transfer request.

As your School Counselor, I'm here to help with high school applications. I want to make sure you have the opportunity to attend the school of your choice and fully understand what is necessary to be accepted.

Things I can do to help:

Meet with you individually to go over the best high school options for you or assist you with application materials.
Complete the JCPS portion of the application for you (with your grownup with us or on the phone).
Complete a recommendation form (if that's required by your school choice). You just need to ask me!
