JCPS has 15 resides high schools, which are organized into three geographical networks, that serve primary residential addresses. If your child wishes to explore options other than their resides school, the next option is to look within your network schools. Students may apply to any school within their network. See the map for a list of schools within each network.
If a student decides to attend a school other than their resides/neighborhood school, they can apply to in-network Academy of Louisville schools, magnet schools, and magnet programs.
Any student in JCPS can apply to a magnet school or magnet program. To apply for an Academies of Louisville (AOL) school, you must choose an AOL school in your network, which is based on your home address.
Students do not need to apply to an Academies of Louisville school if it is their resides school. If it is a school within their network, an application to the school is required and the student must have a 2.0 GPA to be eligible for lottery admission.

Atherton offers an IB (International Baccalaureate/International Studies) program. Any student in JCPS can apply to the IB program at Atherton. Atherton only accepts 1st choice applicants according to their website. Atherton could also possibly be your resides school. Click the image above to see application requirements.

Offers pre-IB courses in grades nine and ten
Has IB examinations contingent on course completion

The Brown School is a K-12 districtwide magnet school for students who thrive in a self-directed learning environment. Any student in JCPS can apply because it is a magnet school. Butler Traditional High School is one of the traditional magnet high schools in JCPS. When applying for the traditional program, your option is either Butler or Male. Your traditional option is based on your address. To be enrolled, you choose Butler as an option on the JCPS website because admissions is based on a lottery system. W.E.B Dubois is a gender specific school for boys with an Afrocentric curriculum. Any male student in the district can apply to attend. Dubois Academy has a tiered admittance process which includes staff recommendations and a performance task. Click the image to the left to learn more about the application process.

The magnets at Manual include:
High School University (HSU) which seeks students with the potential for high academic achievement
Journalism and Communication (J & C) which offers exciting and instantly applicable communications-related courses under teachers with professional experience
Math Science Technology (MST). In this magnet, academic rigor and research is expected of all students through the use of challenging homework, projects, class work, and extracurricular activities that will develop good problem solving and critical-thinking skills.
Visual Arts (VA) provides an outstanding program for artistically gifted students pursuing an art-oriented career.

Grace James is a districtwide magnet that any female in the district can apply for. It is an all-girls school with an Afrocentric curriculum focused on STEAM.
