August 2019
Hello Students and Families,
I've been teaching at Meyzeek Middle since 2008—this marks the beginning of my 12th year teaching—all at Meyzeek! I've spent most of my time in 6th grade, but I have taught 7th Grade and Reading classes at multiple grade levels.
I received by B.A. in Middle Grades Education from Hiram College in Hiram, Ohio and my M.A.E.D. in K-12 Literacy/Reading Specialist from Bellarmine University. I am also a National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT) in Early Adolescence English Language Arts.
I believe all children can learn and can be successful. I have high expectations of students and challenge them to do their best and meet their goals. I hope to inspire my students to love reading and become lifelong readers. This year we will be reading several short stories, articles, and novels. We will also write stories, poems, and informational pieces as we work on being effective communicators to fill our digital Backpacks.
When I am not teaching I enjoy crafting, watching TV, listening to podcasts, reading, exercising, and spending time with friends and family. My roles models include Ira Glass, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Fred Rogers, Sharon Creech, and my third grade teacher Mrs. Rickey. I constantly look for people that inspire me and motivate me to be an awesome teacher.
I am originally from Cleveland, Ohio. I am a fan of all things Cleveland, including the Cavaliers, Indians, and Browns (The Browns WILL have an awesome season this year, by the way!) If forced to choose between UK of U of L, I would choose U of L as that is where my husband went to college. I am a newlywed and do not have any kids of my own; however, I do have a niece and nephew that I like to talk about a lot. I am a very proud auntie! I also have a pet turtle named Raphael and I'm sure I will talk about "Raph Raph" at some point too!
I'm so excited to teach you this year and can’t wait to get to know you.
Welcome to Meyzeek!
~ Ms. Palof
(P.S. Mrs. Walker is my new married name, but you will probably mostly hear me called Palof though! I am fine with being Ms. Palof as I have been for a long time J )
