We will continue to study Informational text further and will discuss Central Idea and Perspective with the text set we finished up last week. Students will practice writing an ERQ with this text set to increase their writing stamina and show mastery of the content.
We will study the affixes Ben, Benne, Bon which all mean good or well! We will also look at article of the week # 24. This Article is a debate, as we will attempt to begin Argument text before the week is over!
We will MAP test this week and have Library on Thursday March 12, so this week we will do what we can with limited time.
We will wrap up last week's work and check and hand in AOW # 22. Students will get AOW #23 for this week on Monday and will get a bunch of graded papers back. Reports cards come home March2!

After more analysis & close reading students will answer text dependent questions. Before the week is over they will write an extended response question that demonstrates their knowledge.
We will wrap up last week's work and check and hand in AOW # 21. Students will get AOW #22, which relates to the movie "Hidden Figures" that we will watch on Friday. We will start the week by reviewing how to restate/text evidence since CFA 4 showed students still struggle with it. As the week continues we will study Informational text further and will discuss Central Idea and Perspective.
This week our schedule will be strange due to KPREP field testing. We will try out best to stay flexible!
We will study text structure this week. We will delve into the major ways author's present information by taking notes, watching Flocabulary, and using practice task cards and a quiz. Students will walk themselves through these activities. As the grading term ends, teacher will meet with students/conference to make sure all major assignments are in. We will also work on "Un" & "Dis" Affixes. Week # 21 Reading and homework will be the first grade on the next term.
We will wrap up our informational research projects and share the objective summaries we wrote. We will discuss how what we saw in the play was similar or different than our researched information and the play's portrayal. Then, continuing our informational text work, we will do a comparison study with a video and info graphic, noting the author's perspectives in how they chose to share the information. This will culminate in a short writing that will be used to assess some of the informational reading skills we have been covering. Library Day on Thursday Feb 13.
We will take this week to prepare for our field trip to the play "Lawbreakers." Students will be assigned a topic around the play to research (some started this last week). Directions for research and copies (if needed) are on Google Classroom. We will share out our research by the end of the week. Students Article of the Week homework will also be about Suffrage.
We will get a study guide for "A Long Walk to Water." Book test will be Friday! We will then begin our mini research project on the Suffrage Movement. Directions for research and copies (if needed) will be on Google Classroom. Students will get these during class.
Play permission slips due ASAP! We will attend the play "Lawless" Feb 7th! We will catch up on Affix INTRA and complete AOW # 18!
Library Day on Thursday January 30th!
We will focus on Chapters 11-18 of "A Long Walk to Water" and will finish the entire book. We will complete targeted sections of the Student Guide (items that are marked, only some portions of each page). We will turn these in by the end of the week!
*8 EDIT: We skipped affix INTRA due to the heavy amount of reading we were trying to get through! We will pick it up again next week!
We didn't get very far with "A Long Walk to Water" last week so we will continue that work! We will focus on CHapters 7-10 this week. We will take a small quiz on the text so far. We will work on the affix we did before break (super/sur) and the new affix "Inter." We will visit the school library on Thursday January 16. We will TRY and review more grammar and text evidence work if we have a chance.
We will heavily review routines and procedures this week. We will continue to study Informational Text, looking at Infographics and Text Features in Non Fiction Text.
We will review the text "A Long Walk to Water"- We only got a few chapters into it before break with all the other things we had going on. We continue to work on Chapters 1-6 (Review) before moving on to a 7-10 chunk using Double Entry Journaling.
If time permits will will review the affixes we've done so far this year and quiz on "Super/Sur" done before break (after reviewing, of course!)
This week (or maybe next) We will start a mini-unit on pronouns on top of everything else! There is so much to learn, bring on the 2nd semester! :)
