Mrs. Poteet - School Counselor 6th grade

Hi! My name is Vanessa Poteet, 6th grade counselor at Lassiter Middle School. I am a proud alumni of Moore High School. I have lived in Louisville my entire life. I have been married to my husband Kevin for 30 years and I have two grown children that are both married. My Son Tyler is married to Haleigh and they have a daughter Ella, who is 2 years old. My daughter Alyssa is married to Wayne and are expecting their daughter Alayna any day. I have been in education over 25 years. I attended Murray State University for my teaching degree and received a master’s in instructional technology and school counseling from University of Louisville.

Before coming to Lassiter, I taught mathematics in all three grades and was a technology and math resource teacher. I have been a counselor for over 11 years for the middle school level. Most of my experience is with 6th grade students. The work transitioning students from elementary to middle school is necessary and enjoyable. I love seeing students happy and prepared after they start getting use to their middle school experience. As a counselor, I strive to work with students in order for them to be successful with academics, social and emotional needs. I have a passion for helping them to learn to navigate through life’s challenges with resilience and self esteem. I pride myself in being a listening ear for all my students and a safe space for them to go when they need it.

In my free time, I love spending time with my family! I enjoy traveling, shopping for bargains, and getting together with friends.

Mrs. Johnson - School Counselor 7th grade

Hi! My name is Angie Johnson, 7th grade counselor at Lassiter Middle School. I have lived in Louisville my entire life and am a proud alumni of Butler Traditional High School. I have been married to my husband Jeremy for 16 years who also works for JCPS. I have one very energetic son, Grayson, who will be starting middle school himself in the 2022 school year. I have been in education for 18 years after spending several years in the corporate world.

Before coming to Lassiter, I taught Mathematics in all three grades and was an Academic Instructional Coach. I attended both the University of Louisville and Bellarmine University and you can often find me cheering on both teams as I love watching sports!

When I am not at school, I spend most of my time watching Grayson play whatever sports are in season (he plays them all), making crafts, reading or planning my next beach or Disney trip.

My role as a school counselor is to provide academic, college and career, as well as social and emotional counseling services for the 7th grade. I love working with middle school students in a time where they are starting to discover who they are in the world.

Please feel free to contact me Monday - Friday from 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Mrs. Williams - School Counselor 8th grade

Hi! I am Danielle Williams.

I am a Louisville native born and raised. My husband and I have been married for 18 years and have 2 energetic, fun-loving boys named Dylan and Dean. I have worked in JCPS for 16 years. Prior to joining the Lassiter family last year, I taught 8th grade social studies. I have degrees from both the University of Louisville and Indiana University Southeast. (GO CARDS!) Outside of work, I love watching the Cards play, spending time outdoors and hanging with my boys.

I believe that school counselors are an important part of the student team. Teachers, administrators, parents and students must work together to help all of our students succeed. As a school counselor, I am an advocate for student achievement. Our role is to help all students to thrive academically, socially and personally. Our goal is to help all students leave our building ready for high school, college and their future careers.

I am a counselor for the 8th grade. I enjoy watching our students enter the building as 6th graders and grow and flourish into the leaders they become by their 8th grade year. I love helping our 8th graders prepare for their next transition into high school even though it is hard each year to let them go.

Please feel free to contact me Monday - Friday from 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Mrs. Coughenour - Mental Health Practitioner

Hi! My name is Brianna Coughenour.

I was born and raised in Louisville and completed both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at the University of Louisville. I have spent the last four years in the mental health field working to help both individuals and their families. I am currently a Marriage and Family Therapist Associate working towards my full licensure and I firmly believe that anyone is capable of growth and change if given a safe and non-judgmental environment to do so.

I am the Mental Health Practitioner for Lassiter Middle School and I look forward to getting to work with the students, staff and the respective Lassiter families. My goal is to always provide a comforting space for those who need it and to advocate for the needs of the students in the school.

In my free-time, I love staying in with my husband, Brent and our three cats and binge-watching movies/TV shows, reading new books and traveling to new cities and states.
