Hello JFK Families,
Our Cubs had an awesome return from Fall Break last week! We are approaching the end of our first nine weeks grading period as it ends on Wednesday, Oct. 16th.
This week is National Anti-Bullying Prevention Week. Anti-Bullying Week is a nationwide initiative that highlights the issue of bullying and encourages individuals to take action against it. It emphasizes the importance of fostering a culture of respect and support, where bullying is not tolerated, and every person is valued.
JFK participates in The Olweus Program which is a comprehensive approach that includes schoolwide, classroom, individual, and community components. The program is focused on long-term change that creates a safe and positive school climate. It is designed and evaluated for use in elementary, middle, and high schools (K-12). The program’s goals are to reduce and prevent bullying problems among school children and to improve peer relations at school. The program has been found to reduce bullying among students, improve the social climate of classrooms, and reduce related antisocial behaviors, such as vandalism and truancy. Ms. Norman-Taylor, our school guidance counselor will begin implementing OLWEUS lessons in classrooms beginning this week, which will be on-going throughout the school year.
We also have an anti-bullying assembly scheduled this week for all students. Wednesday Oct.16th is National Stop Bullying Day and we are asking our students and staff to wear the color ORANGE to commit to no bullying tolerance.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and we know family or friends who have been affected by this disease. We will dedicate our remaining Friday's to PINK OUT Fridays. Students may wear the color PINK on Oct. 18th and Oct. 25th.
Students who are bringing purses to school will be asked to leave those in their backpacks or classrooms during the day. Students will not be able to travel with purses during the school day unless there is a specific need that has been communicated to the teacher or administrative team.
Your Partner in Education,
Principal Helm
The PTA Contest will be extended to Friday, October 25. The rewards will be given after this date.
This is a reminder that morning drop-off time is 9:10 a.m. Students are not allowed in the building until 9:10 a.m. Our start time is 9:40 a.m. Dismissal starts at 4:20 p.m. Car rider dropoff and pickup is located in the back parking lot on Gibson Lane. The back doors will close at 9:37 a.m.
Car rider parents must stay in the car. Students are not dismissed past the gated entrance. 38th Street is not a place to drop-off car riders.
Our office closes at 5 p.m. Students need to be picked up at dismissal time.
Now that the first grading period and fall break are over, we feel that your students that may need extra support can highly benefit from Kumon's after-school academic enrichment and tutoring program.
Kumon is committed to offering the extra support students need to excel in the classroom and beyond. The Louisville Urban League offers a closer opportunity for students to have a KUMON experience.
Thank you,
