Happy New Year JFK Families!
I hope this newsletter finds you well and warm as we’ve had some very cold temperatures over the past few weeks in the city! As we work together to maintain a healthy and safe environment for all our students, we kindly remind you of a few important guidelines regarding illness and prevention:
Keep Sick Students Home
❤️ Students must be fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of medication before returning to school.
🧡 If your child has symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, an undiagnosed rash, or other contagious conditions, please keep them home until they are fully recovered.
Practice Good Hygiene
💛 Encourage frequent handwashing with soap and water at home and remind your child to do the same at school. We encourage handwashing as well as the use of additional hand sanitizer.
💚 Remind your child to sneeze or cough into their elbow to prevent the spread of germs.
Prevention Measures
🩵 Reinforce the importance of not sharing food, drinks, or personal items such as hats with others.
💙 Promote healthy habits such as eating nutritious meals, staying hydrated, and getting enough sleep to boost their immune systems.
Thank you for your partnership in keeping our school community healthy. Your efforts make a big difference in reducing the spread of illness and ensuring a safe environment for all. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact our school nurse Marci Barrett.
Warmly,
Principal Helm

Ways parents can help support student learning at home
Set a routine: Designate a specific time and place for homework and reading each night to help children develop good study habits and focus.
Monitor progress: Regularly check in on homework or assignments, and discuss any challenges they might be facing.
Communicate with teachers: Attend parent-teacher conferences and stay updated on curriculum and expectations.
Provide support, not answers: Guide your child through the process of solving problems, rather than giving them direct answers.
Celebrate achievements: Praise effort and progress, not just perfect grades.
Adapt to individual needs: Understand your child's learning style and pace, and adjust your support accordingly.
The dates for the Spring Book Fair are Feb. 28-March 7. The times will be 9:50 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
Please fill out the Library Volunteer Survey.
This is a reminder that morning drop-off time is 9:10 a.m. Students are not allowed in the building until 9:10 a.m. Our start time is 9:40 a.m. Dismissal starts at 4:20 p.m. Car rider dropoff and pickup is located in the back parking lot on Gibson Lane. The back doors will close at 9:37 a.m.
Car rider parents must stay in the car. Students are not dismissed past the gated entrance. 38th Street is not a place to drop-off car riders.
Our office closes at 5 p.m. Students need to be picked up at dismissal time.
Students will bring home a packet from their teacher or a Chromebook for NTI days. If NTI happens, the schedule and teacher links will be sent home.
