Dear Kennedy Families,
It has been a wonderful start to the 24-25 school year! Thank you for sending your children to J.F. Kennedy! At JFK, we believe that relationships matter. Whether it be greeting students in the morning or daily "morning meetings", building positive relationships with students is our goal.
We also value the relationship with our parent community. As a parent, one of the most important things you can do for your child’s education is to develop relationships with the people in your child’s academic life. This includes teachers, principals, your child’s friends, and their parents.
As partners in your child’s education, we are here to collaborate and communicate every step of the way. Your involvement is invaluable and together we can create an enriching and successful academic experience.
This week our CUBS are MAP (Measures of Academic Progressing) testing, which is a standardized assessment that measures student achievement and growth in math and reading. The test is computer-adaptive, meaning it adjusts to the student's ability and knowledge level.
MAP tests are given three times a year, and the results help teachers understand how students are performing and how they're growing over time. Teachers can use this information to plan a curriculum that meets each student's needs and to help students progress in the areas being assessed.
Thank you for entrusting us with your precious children. We look forward to a year of exciting learning opportunities and accomplishments.
Your Partner in Education,
Stephanie Helm
Students are not allowed in the building until 9:10 a.m. Our start time is 9:40 a.m. Dismissal starts at 4:20 p.m. Car rider dropoff and pickup is located in the back parking lot on Gibson Lane. The back doors will close at 9:37 a.m.
Car rider parents must stay in the car. Students are not dismissed past the gated entrance.
Our office closes at 5 p.m. Students need to be picked up at dismissal time.
Our goal is for our students to make healthy choices in the lunchroom. All students in our school can eat lunch from the cafeteria or bring lunch from home. Please do not send restaurant food or soda pop for lunch. Also, we have been having issues with large bags of chips. Please send your child with individual bags of chips.
Dress Code- All students are expected to dress appropriately for the school day's activities and the weather. Students are not allowed to wear halter tops, spaghetti-strap tank tops, or any clothing that exposes the abdominal area. Students should refrain from wearing alcohol, tobacco, profanity, violence, or drug logos or symbols of any sort on their clothes. Shorts, skorts, or skirts should be worn at an appropriate length—no shorter than the end of the fingertip when the arm is extended straight down the side of the body. Pants are to be worn at waist level at all times. No items may be worn that are distracting to the educational process. Students should wear shoes that will be safe for all activities, including physical education (closed-toe soft-soled shoes) and flip-flops. All slides (e.g., Nike, etc.) are not allowed! Students are encouraged to wear tennis shoes daily. No coats or hoodies are allowed to be worn during the school day. However, students are allowed to wear a light sweater or sweatshirt.
Classroom Visits- Parents are encouraged to visit our school frequently and participate actively in our educational community. Parents who would like to visit the classroom to check on their child's progress must call and set up a day and time in advance with the teacher to ensure that the visit does not interfere with instruction. Parents must sign in and inform the office personnel of the purpose of the visit. We request that parents avoid conferences with teachers during such visits, but rather schedule a conference for a mutually acceptable time. f you need to speak with your child's teacher during the school day, a message will be taken in the front office. Teachers will return the call by the end of the school day or within 24 hours. If you wish to drop off items for a student, please leave them with our office staff to ensure that teaching time is not interrupted. Flowers, balloons, gifts, stuffed animals, etc., will not be delivered to students. Please arrange to have these items delivered to them at home.
Birthdays- If your child would like to celebrate his or her birthday with the class, please make arrangements with your child's teacher at least one week in advance. This will allow the teacher time to schedule the celebration into his or her instructional plans for the day. Healthy treats need to be brought to the classroom by your child upon his or her arrival at school or delivered to the office. If you choose to bring the snack to the celebration, please arrive at the time that was prearranged with your child's teacher. Although we allow students to celebrate their birthday with their class, remember that this is not to be considered a birthday party for your child. Invitations to celebrations outside of school are not to be distributed at school under any circumstances.
