Thank you if you have already registered for this event! It’s not too late to join Metro United Way and Park Community Credit Union for what will be an impactful virtual event featuring Dr. Robin DiAngelo, author of New York Times Bestseller, White Fragility: Why It’s So Hard For White People to Talk about Racism. In 2011 she coined the term “white fragility”, which has since influenced international dialogue on race. She defines it as “a state in which even a minimum amount of racial stress becomes intolerable, triggering a range of defensive moves”.
Dr. DiAngelo has numerous other publications and books including award-winning Is Everybody Really Equal?: An Introduction to Key Concepts in Critical Social Justice Education, co-written with Özlem Sensoy. A two-time winner of the Student’s Choice Award for Educator of the Year at the University of Washington’s School of Social Work, DiAngelo is an Affiliate Associate Professor of Education at this University.
She’s worked for 20 years providing diversity training for businesses and contends that racism is embedded throughout America’s systems and culture. She’s been characterized as “perhaps the country’s most visible expert in anti-bias training”.
Beyond Buzz Words is a Metro United Way speaker series on diversity, equity and inclusion that is designed to provide thoughtful and meaningful discussions about important topics that promote thinking as well as personal and institutional application. Please join us for the fourth event of the series.
