Making a Referral
How to Make a Referral
A referral can be made by you or school staff. If you contact the ECE implementation coach at your child's school they will send you a referral form to complete. There will be some information needed on that form that you may not know. That is perfectly fine! The school will be glad to help you fill it in.
Preschool-Age Children
Children may be eligible for early childhood education services during the year in which they turn three through the end of the school year in which they turn five. Please see the Early Childhood Education page for more information.
School-Age Students Enrolled in JCPS
Call, mail, email, or send in your referral request to your child's school. The classroom teacher or office staff will direct it to the correct person.
School-Age Students Enrolled in Private, Religious, or Not Enrolled in School
Please call 502-485-3539
After the Referral has been Made
After you have made your request known, the referral packet will be sent to you to complete as best you can. If the school is making the referral, they will complete the packet. Once you complete the packet and return It to your child's school, the ECE implementation coach has 10 school days to meet with you to go over the referral and determine next steps as a committee.
Consent for Evaluation
If the committee decides that there is enough information to move forward with an ECE evaluation, you will be asked to sign a "Consent for Evaluation" form. Even if you made the referral yourself, you must still give consent for the process to begin. If you choose not to give consent, your child will not be evaluated.
