Evaluation
After you give consent, we have 60 school days to evaluate your child. Weekends and any breaks are not included in this timeline.
Evaluation Locations
Preschool-Age Children
They may be evaluated at a number of locations including our early childhood diagnostic centers or at one of our elementary schools. When the initial consent meeting occurs, a location for the assessment will be decided.
School-Age Students Enrolled in JCPS
Your child will be evaluated at their school.
School-Age Students Enrolled in Private, Religious, or Not Enrolled in School
Your child may be evaluated at what would be their home school within JCPS, the closest school to your home, or at their school if they are enrolled elsewhere. The location will be discussed at the consent meeting.
Initial Evaluations
The Admissions and Release Committee (ARC) will be made up of you, the designated chairperson/district representative running the meeting and taking notes, and the appropriate providers based on the referral concerns. A general education teacher and ECE teacher will also be present to answer any questions. You may also invite any other adults with you that you feel can contribute to the conversation about your child, this could include other caregivers, therapists, or any outside service providers. Your child (the student), is also invited if appropriate (if your child is 14 years old or older he or she must be invited).
The actual evaluation will be geared specifically to your child's needs and concerns. Assessment pieces may include:
Social and Developmental History
Psychoeducational testing
Behavior Observations
Rating Scales
Medical Statements/Records
School Records
Teacher assessments and ratings
Interviews
Speech-Language Therapy
Occupational and/or Physical Therapy
Assistive Technology
Please provide the ARC with any independent assessments you want them to consider.
