Regional awards and certificates will be received by the students' art teachers the week of April 29th for distribution to their students. 

• The regional Best-in-Show awardee receives a trophy and certificate.  

• Regional 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place awardees receive a ribbon and a certificate. 

• Regional Honorable Mentions receive a certificate.  

• Non-awardees receive a certificate of participation.

Participation is ONLY through art teachers, school administrators, and other educational organizations who are current members of NAEA/KyAEA.  Students may NOT submit to this competition on their own.  For NAEA/KyAEA membership info, click HERE.

Participating KyAEA High School art teachers should contact Melisa Gano at melisa.gano@jefferson.kyschools.us  ASAP to get on her email distribution list to get the submission guidelines specific to the Derby Region. If planning to participate, art teachers should complete the ALL REGIONS TEACHER PARTICIPATION GOOGLE FORM  as soon as possible

Important 2024 Dates and Deadlines:

• March 20 - Deadline for Derby Region participating teachers to submit entries.  

Derby Region Teachers are to complete:

• 1.  The ALL REGIONS TEACHER PARTICIPATION GOOGLE FORM.

  2.  The 2024 KyAEA HS All-State Student Entry Form for EACH artwork submitted.

  3.  A Derby Region Teacher Inventory Document.

• March 21 - 23 - Derby Region Judging

• March 25 - Announcement of 2024 Derby Region winners!

• March 27 - 2024 Derby Region Online Exhibition 

• By April 9 before 4:30 p.m. - Delivery of Derby Region Best-in-Show and 1st Place Awardees' artwork to Melisa Gano at JCPS-Academics, 3301 Stober Road, Louisville, KY 40213. (NOTE: No artwork deliveries accepted March 29 [after 3:00 p.m.] - April 8 as JCPS is on spring break during that time.)

• April 10 - Delivery of Derby Region Best-in-Show and 1st Place Awardees' artwork to State for judging (Melisa Gano delivers)

• April 8-12 - State Judging

• April 15 - Announcement of state level winners

• April 28 - May 17 - State-Level Exhibition at Bolivar Art Gallery, University of Kentucky School of Art & Visual Studies, 236 Bolivar St., Lexington, KY 40508; open to the public Monday – Friday from 10 AM – 4:30 PM and Saturdays from 12 - 4 PM.

• April 28 from 2 - 4 PM - State-Level Awards Ceremony & Reception at Bolivar Art Gallery, University of Kentucky School of Art & Visual Studies, 236 Bolivar St., Lexington, KY 40508; Awards presentation begins at 2:30 PM.  (NOTE: No artwork may be removed from gallery.)

• April 29 - May 1 - Regional awards and certificates (as well as state-level awards and certificates not picked up at the April 28th ceremony/reception) will be available for pick-up by students' art teachers.   Art teachers should then distribute those awards/certificates to their students.  Teachers should arrange pick-up date/time with Melisa Gano.  

• May 17- State-Level Exhibition closes with an Open Reception in conjuction with the Lexington Gallery Hop from 5 - 8 PM at Bolivar Art Gallery, University of Kentucky School of Art & Visual Studies, 236 Bolivar St.  Students and teachers can pick up artwork at this time from the gallery space.  Melisa Gano will bring back any artwork NOT remaining at the gallery; then contact the students' art teachers to schedule pick-up of the work.

• May 20 - 24 - Derby Region artwork exhibited at the state level  and not picked up on May 17 at the Bolivar Art Gallery may be picked up from Melisa Gano's work location. Teachers should arrange pick-up date/time with Melisa Gano.
