Regional medals and certificates will be received by the students' art teachers after April 10th for distribution to their students.  Students continuing to learn in a virtual setting will receive their awards by mail.  

• The regional Best-in-Show awardee receives a trophy and certificate.  

• Regional 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place awardees receive a medal and certificate. 

• Regional Honorable Mentions receive a certificate.  

• Non-awardees receive a certificate of participation.

Participation is ONLY through art teachers, school administrators, and other educational organizations who are current members of NAEA/KyAEA.  Students may NOT submit to this competition on their own.  For NAEA/KyAEA membership info, click HERE.

Participating KyAEA High School art teachers should contact Melisa Gano at melisa.gano@jefferson.kyschools.us  ASAP to get on her email distribution list and to be given access to the Derby Region Google Drive for complete participation guidelines for our region, including the subfolders to upload artwork images, inventory sheet, and student entry forms for regional judging.  If planning to participate, art teachers should complete the 2023 KYAEA HS All-State Teacher Participation Form as soon as possible

Important 2023 Dates and Deadlines:

• March 15 - Deadline for Derby Region participating teachers to submit entries.  

  1. Teachers are to upload digital images of student artwork to the Derby Region Google Drive folder by category.

  2.  Complete the All-State Catalog/Inventory sheet.

  3.  Submit *hard copies of the student entry forms to Melisa Gano. complete the . 

*Teachers may also opt to just upload the images to the Google Drive, but submit physical copies of their student entry forms and inventory sheets to Melisa.

NOTE: Derby Region participating teachers must email Melisa Gano, the Derby Region HS All-State Coordinator, to be added to the 2023 Derby Region KyAEA HS All-State Google Drive for access.  

• March 17-18 - Derby Region Judging

• March 20 - Announcement of 2023 Derby Region winners!

• March 23 by 4:30 p.m. - Delivery of Derby Region Best-in-Show and 1st Place Awardees' artwork to Melisa Gano at JCPS-Edwards Education Complex, 701 S. Hancock St., Louisville, KY 40203

• March 24 - Delivery of Derby Region Best-in-Show and 1st Place Awardees' artwork to State for judging (Melisa Gano delivers)

• March 27 - 2023 Derby Region Online Exhibition 

Melisa Gano will work with participating art teachers to schedule a pick-up date/time for Derby Region student certificates and award packets.  Art teachers should then deliver certificates/awards to their students.

• March 27-31 - State Judging

• April 1 - Announcement of state level winners

• April 2 - 30 - State-Level Exhibition at Hellmann Creative Center, 321 MLK Jr. Blvd, Covington, KY 41011; open to the public Monday – Friday from 9 AM – 5 PM.

• April 30 at 2:00 PM - State-Level Awards Ceremony & Reception at Hellmann Creative Center, 321 MLK Jr. Blvd, Covington, KY 41011
