Dear Brown School Family,
Today’s Student-Led Conference Day was a wonderful success! We were so proud to see our students take ownership of their learning by sharing their progress, goals, and reflections with you. Student-Led Conferences is an important facet of our magnet program theme. The confidence and independence our students demonstrated are at the heart of what we want for every child—reasoned minds and educated hearts.
We are especially grateful to you for being active partners in this process. Your presence, encouragement, and thoughtful conversations with your child made the day meaningful. These conferences are designed to help students practice responsibility, advocacy, and reflection, and your support helps make that possible.
Thank you for being such an important part of our school community. Together, we are building the skills and habits that will serve our students well in school and in life.
I hope you have a fantastic fall break!
Love,
Dr. Angela

Blue sheets went home with students last week. Please decide which exams your child will take, sign, and return with payment by the end of this week (Fall Break) to Sarah.
With Halloween fast approaching, many students will want to wear costumes on October 30th to school. Please keep in mind our Student Dress Policy to ensure that the costume meets the guidelines for regular school attire. Please avoid toy weapons, masks, excessive fake blood, gore, and full face paint. Avoid any costumes that may attempt to represent a group or population of people/culture, marginalize a group or culture, or focus on stereotypes. Also, avoid costumes that are really scary, because we do have very young students in our building. If you have any questions about the appropriateness of a costume, please ask an assistant principal or counselor!
Chestnut Street will be closing when Broadway reopens. See infographic below for the impact on J. Graham Brown School. Construction will continue for at least two years.

Cross-Country The elementary cross country team competed in the JCPS Championships last night and had a great showing! Many runners got PRs and every single teammate has improved their time over the course of the season. We have just a few meets left this year!
Thank you to our generous volunteers for their time, yesterday, in helping out with Brown's annual Field Day. We had a great day with students, faculty, and families!
2026-2027 National PTA Reflections Program
We are in the process of updating our website with information about the Reflections Program. This year's theme is "What My Culture Means to Me" Please check the website for all the information on how your child can create and submit their artwork. Brown PTSA Reflections Page
Our Annual PTSA Fall Festival is Friday, October 16th! As the PTSA works to plan an amazing evening for families- we wouldn't be able to pull this even off without YOU. Volunteer shift signups are now open HERE. Get to know other parents and support our students' hard work on their game and activity booths. We'll see you there!
FALL FESTIVAL STUDENT BOOTH SPONSORSHIP
If your student group would like to host a booth as a fundraiser, please see the signups HERE! Student groups are defined as a sponsored academic group, club, or athletic team. This also includes grade-level fundraising for a specific outing, etc. Please, additionally, check in with your faculty advisor before signing up- they might have already submitted the form:)
A few things to keep in mind as we are standardizing fundraising efforts for equity amongst groups.
Each student group can sponsor a game booth- Did you know the PTSA provides all materials so that student groups net 100% of what their booth brings in? We provide: the game (unless you have one you want to use) along with prizes. Each game will cost festival attendees $1 Bear Buck per chance.
Another option is a club-sponsored activity ((tattoos, make and take craft, face painting)- something that’s not a purchase but an experience for attendees) Clubs are responsible for their own supplies, and the cost to attendees is no more than $3 bear bucks.
Lastly, we are opening a "student makers market" for up to 6 student organizations (see above clarification) and that would be first come first serve. This market includes hand crafted items and art only(crocheted items, paintings, pottery, jewelry, etc) and does not include reselling tchotchkes. Please see the option below to request a formal booth application form. Items can be no more than $10 Bear Bucks
GRADE-LEVEL RAFFLE BASKET AND SILENT AUCTION UPDATES
Our Teachers and Room Parents are planning and collecting items for the festival's basket raffle! We are so grateful for their hard work, but we need help in filling those baskets with desirable items! Each basket has a fun theme and you should get more direction from them on items that fit that theme. This is the largest portion of the festival that helps to fundraise all expenses so that the PTSA is able to give 100% of the booth proceeds to student groups.
In addition to the grade-level raffle, we'll have a few hot ticket items for raffle/silent auction. Prior years have included a "skip the line" parking spot, many bottles of high end bourbon, or around town experiences. If you work for or are involved with a business who might contribute a high value item, we'd love your introduction to that group. In the event you need an in-kind donation/ sponsorship letter, that can be found HERE.
Carmichael's Kids Presents Jeff Kinney! Author of Diary of A Wimpy Kid on Friday, October 23 at Spalding University. For more information and tickets, click here.
Please check the lost and found by Friday, September 25. Any items left after Friday, will be donated during fall break.
Thank you to our families who have completed the Educational Benefits Form (EBF). This is a mandatory form for all families. By completing this form, your family may qualify for waived or reduced fees for school fees/fieldtrips, ACT/AP testing, scholarships, etc. If you have not completed this form, click here to apply.
If you would like for me to work with your student please feel free to reach out to me or fill out the student support form. Like in previous years the quiet space in the Pedway office is available to all students per request to their teachers! If you have any other questions or concerns please feel free to reach out.
As the school year moves on we also recognize that sometimes students need extra assistance with mental health needs. If you or your student are in need of a mental health service provider (therapist, psychiatrist, etc) please feel free to reach out. JCPS is able to collaborate with Care Solace to help connect JCPS families with local providers.

Happy Fall Break Everyone! Fall break is a great opportunity to research colleges or even schedule a college visit. I recommend viewing schools close to home such as Bellarmine, UofL, or Spalding.
