Dear Brown School Family,
Last school year I sent out a request for someone to help us renovate our 100 year old cabinets in our staff workroom. Lane Slabaugh, one of our parents, answered the call! Our school purchased the supplies and Lane handcrafted gorgeous doors and drawers in his home workshop. Over the summer he installed everything and we are absolutely thrilled. We are so grateful to Lane for all his hard work. Check out the transformation!

Club J is a before & after-school program set in the Jewish Community Center's fun environment run by Camp J Staff. Children enrolled in Club J will play games, participate in a variety of activities each week, receive homework help as needed, and get to spend time with their friends. We currently have several Brown School students participating in Club J.
Transportation is available from Brown School after school to the program. Club J staff members pick up students through Car Rider Alley on a dedicated van. There's room for more students, so CLICK HERE to find out more about this program.
Senate Bill (SB) 73, related to sexual extortion, was recently passed by the legislature and requires school districts to provide THIS INFORMATION about sexual extortion to help ensure that parents/guardians have the resources they need to support their student(s) and protect them from being victimized (KRS 531.125).
Students in grades 6-12 received this information on Monday in their Google Classroom. Students in grades 4 & 5 received the information on paper today.
Families,
Please read and complete the JCPS/Brown School Device Usage Agreement Form for each child you have who attends the Brown School.
Our School Technology Coordinator, Drew Paige, will email, text, or call home to explain any repairs or replacements the student's Chromebook needs and any amount owed to cover the damages.
For example, a broken Chromebook screen voids the warranty and will incur a service repair of $30 owed by the family. Students will be given a loaner Chromebook that they have to check in and out daily until payment for the damaged Chromebook has been received. Once the damage obligation has been fulfilled, students will receive a Chromebook replacement that they can then take home again.
Here is a drafted email example of what you can expect to see if your child's Chromebook or Charger were to sustain any damages.
We did not receive all of our chargers back last school year when students turned in their Chromebooks for the Summer. If your student has lost or broken their charger cord, a replacement can be purchased in the Ursa Lab. Used Chargers are $10, and brand new ones are $25 cash or check made out to the Brown School.
If you have any questions regarding technology at Brown, please email Drew. (andrew.paige@jefferson.kyschools.us).
Hello, my name is Tammy Bradshaw-Cook and I am uber excited to be the new Risk Assessment Coordinator for the J. Graham Brown School family. This will be my fifth year with JCPS having spent the last four years as the Safety Administrator at Atherton High School. I have two children, Sierra (30) who is a University of Kentucky graduate, a newlywed and will soon begin her second of a four year doctoral program in Clinical Psychology at Chaminade University in Honolulu, Hawaii. My son, Gavin (26) has his Bachelor's degree in Africana Studies and a minor in History from Middle Tennessee State University and is also employed by JCPS. I retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army April 2022 prior to becoming an SA. I am proud to have served my country honorably for over 39 years having joined the U.S. Army Reserves as a 17 year old during my junior year at Southern High School. I have a BS in Elementary Education (1-8) and taught 13 years while in the Army Reserves, as well as a Master's degree in Post Secondary Higher Education from the University or Louisville. Protecting and being in the service of others and mentoring young people to become "Servant Leaders" has been and continues to be my life's work and I look forward to bringing that same enthusiasm and level of caring to the students and staff here at Brown. I am excited to be here and looking forward to an extraordinary year!
Hello, my name is Alex Hummel and I am thrilled to be the Elementary and Middle School PE/Health Teacher. This will be my first year in education as I just graduated from the University of Louisville… Go Cards.
I have had a lifelong passion for physical education and health and believe that every student deserves the opportunity to build confidence, stay active, and develop healthy habits that will last a lifetime. My goal is to create a positive, engaging and inclusive environment where every student feels welcomed, encouraged and excited to participate.
Outside of school, I enjoy playing golf, coaching basketball, and spending time with family and friends. I was born and raised in Louisville and graduated from Male High School.
I can’t wait to meet all of our students and families and become part of the Brown Community. I am looking forward to an amazing school year filled with learning, movement, teamwork, and fun.
“Success isn’t about being the best. It’s about being better than you were yesterday.”
Let’s have a fantastic year!
Greetings! My name is An Tran and I am excited to join the J. Graham Brown School as a high school Chemistry teacher and 8th grade science teacher.
I am originally from Vietnam where I went to the University of Science - Vietnam National University to pursue my Bachelor’s degree in chemistry. I later moved to Louisville, KY where I was granted both of my Bachelor and Mater of Science in chemistry from the University of Louisville. When I was in Vietnam, I used to be an English tutor for a nine-year-old boy. The experience has sparked my interest in becoming a teacher.
I believe every child possesses unique strengths and potential; and education serves as the bridge that transforms curiosity into knowledge and opportunities into success. By fostering collaboration, open communication, and creativity in my classroom, I strive to create a supportive and engaging learning environment where all students can thrive. I look forward to contributing to the success and growth of the students at Brown High School to the best of my ability.
An will be starting with us on Monday, August 17th.

We are in need of the following Class/Room Parents:
Eriauna's Class (1st) - Need 2
Lauren's Class (1st) - Need 2
Jennifer's Class (2nd) - Need 1
8th Grade - Need 1

Help with one of our largest goals for the year: to build our parent volunteer base. We have options ranging from small to large time commitments, and if you have a desire to help... we'll find a place for you! Each function is described briefly, and you are more than welcome to select as many as you'd have time for! We'll reach out via email to all who are interested.
For questions please contact jgrahambrownptsa@gmail.com
The district's goal this year is to reduce Chronic Absenteeism among our students. Did you know that missing 10% of school is considered to be Chronic Absenteeism, whether the absence is excused or unexcused? Please make every effort for your student to be at school and on time. EVERY STUDENT MATTERS AND EVERY DAY COUNTS!

This is a mandatory lesson that all JCPS students receive twice a year, every school year. If you are concerned or have questions, please email me directly at cordia.pickerill@jefferson.kyschools.us.
