Science -Metals and Fabrics and Plastics...OH MY!

Why do we sort things into groups?

Students will understand that all objects have physical properties that can be used to sort them.

Students will describe, sort, compare, and order different objects based on their physical properties. These properties could include size, shape, color, texture, materials, etc. Some objects might include different textured papers, buttons, beads, building materials, etc. As a result of this unit, students will be able to clearly and specifically describe a real-world situation in which they sorted different objects into similar groups and explain how those objects may be used based on their common properties (sorting clothes into t-shirts vs. long-sleeve shirts, putting their toys away in different toy boxes, etc.).
