Grades and Grading

Grades

--There will be 2 grades for each class Content Grade & Work Habits Grade.

--All classes will be using the same Standards Based Scoring system for learning content.

--Student progress will be visible in Campus but will not earn a final grade until the end of the semester.

--Content Grade will measure student level of acheivement related to the standards. See here for a school wide rubric. See here for how this looks in math class.

--Work Habits Grade will measure student habits for learning in classroom and on own. See here for a school wide rubric.

What does my grade show about my learning?

EXCEEDS standard level

3.5- 4.0 (95 - 100%) A: student demonstrates ability to connect all skills along with completing advanced applications & reasoning of the concepts

MEETS standard level

3.0 - 3.4 (80 - 89%) B: student is able to successfully/consistently demonstrate skills at a basic level and can combine the skills for further applications of the concepts consistently.

PROGRESSING toward standard level

2.0 - 2.9(70 - 79%) C- student is able to show BASIC level of most skills and student is unable to demonstrate skill consistently and or has gaps in skills

NOT YET able to progress toward standard level

1.0 - 1.9 (60 - 69%) D: student is UNABLE to show ANY knowledge of the skill OR student is unable to show skills unless teacher has STEP-BY-STEP worked through the problem with the student.

Where will my grades come from?

End of Unit Assessments will determine the grade for each standard of learning. Students will have mulitple attempts prior to an end of unit assessment through classwork, homework, quizzes.

Learning Opportunities: class work and homework

  • demonstration of student ability where they are working with others or with resources to build and practice standards

  • these scores will not average into the content learning grade but rather they will be used as a record of student learning in the gradebook so students and parents can see the progression of learning

  • (3.5) is the highest level acheivable

Quizzes:

  • demonstration of student ability where they are working alone to demonstrate standards

  • Exceeding the Standard (3.5) is the highest level acheivable

Tests:

  • graded work will be considered complete and can only be improved through additional opportunities later in the semester

  • students must have all Learning Opportunites complete and attended a help session for the opportunity to improve a test score.

  • Exceeding the Standard (4) is the highest level acheivable

How can students help themselves complete homework?

  • Be prepared to work--quiet learning place, limited distractions, paper/pencil

  • Watch the help video on the google classroom--take notes, pause, or rewatch as needed

  • Check the answers or feedback the teacher provides for the assignment on the google classroom

  • Contact a classmate

  • Use the BIG Ideas online resource for help- the google classroom should contain the chapter and section where you can find more examples.

  • Make a plan to meet with the teacher on Travel Advise Days (Thursday), lunch, or after school

  • Do assignments immediately--be ready to turn in the assignment the next day of class
