Why Take art?
Drawing intermediate is a class that you take to draw; however, you can take away so much more from this class. Throughout the year we get plenty of assignments, many of which explore different concepts and techniques, making the class interesting and busy. I think that throughout the year I would personally be satisfied with the assignments I have completed in both quality and time. I think that with such a wide variety of materials accessible in the art room, it’s hard to use them all, but I got pretty close. I used colored pencils in my surreal still life to add a unique charm to the piece. There are also projects where we had a limited tool set, such as the natural explosion project where we could only use pencils. The project did allow for experimentation with turpentine, adding an element to the art that was new and exciting. Before starting the class I thought I had known the pacing of work in the class. This was disproven, as instead of the strict deadlines and quick turnaround rates, we were given extensions and a realistic timeframe for our work. That was great for giving us the opportunity we needed to finish all our work to a high standard of quality. The most important thing about the class was to relax, let the projects happen, and try new things, this class allows you to do all of that with no repercussions.
This represents catch the viewer's eye because the crystal tree stands out in the work because it's not what people are expecting to see. This work was successful in that I was able to get a lot of value in the grass. One thing I learned from this work is that crystal takes a lot of time to draw, and it is also very difficult with all its values. Katie, 11th grade
In this piece the flowers are able to catch the viewers attention by being bold and very pigmented. The lightness and plainness of the skin also help bring them out. This color makes the viewer want to understand more about the drawing. Caroline, 11th grade
