Biotic + Abiotic = Ecology

Outdoor Lab is the perfect place to get our hands and minds around our Colorado Montane Ecosystem. Students will conduct ecosystem research during their visit. Data will be stored and accessible for all in Jefferson County Schools to use. Outdoor Lab will collaborate with governmental and citizen scientists when possible.

Windy Peak Track Plates

We set up two track plates on the Biosphere trail. One on the North facing slope and one on the South facing slope. As we continue to perfect this method, we may expand beyond Biosphere!

Windy Peak Camera Traps

We will collect camera trap samples on: Biosphere, Geosphere, Archery, and Hydrosphere Trails. We are using Predator Lure for each camera sample.

Camera Trap Images:

• August 12 - 16, 2019: Windy Peak Staff. Camera was placed on the Weather Station. Species observed: Grey Fox.
• October 8-10, 2019: Dennison Elementary. Camera was placed due east of Prometheus 10 yards. Species observed: Mule Deer. 28 total images were captured.
• October 15-17, 2019: Wayne Carle Middle School. (No wildlife was captured on film this week)
• October 22-31, 2019: Arvada K8 and Molholm. Camera was placed on Geosphere near point 7. Species observed: Mule Deer
• November 4-7, 2019: Camera was placed due east of Prometheus 10 yards. (No wildlife was captured on film this week)
• November 12 - December 6, 2019: Windy Peak Staff. Camera was on the Biosphere Road. Species observed: Mule Deer (2 separate individual bucks and one pair), the Grey Fox, and several happy children.
• December 18, 2019 - January 12, 2020: The Manning School and Oberon Middle School. Camera was placed near the Yurt on the Initiatives Course. Species observed: wind. 1,210 pictures of wind.
