Hello! My name is Maria Yost, soon to be Maria Armstrong, as I just got married at the beginning of the school year. I am thrilled to be starting my fifth year as the theatre arts teacher here at Carmody Middle School. I'm certified to teach language arts, social studies, and theatre arts in Colorado, and I formerly taught all three subjects. I also am CTE Certified for teaching all performing arts courses. Theatre is one of my greatest passions, and I have been involved in the theatre arts most of my life.
Some highlights of my theatre career include acting, directing and play writing. I've performed in over 60 productions that included Shakespeare, murder-mystery plays, comedies, and musicals. This past summer, I performed in 42nd Street with the Englewood Summer Drama Program. Musicals are my favorite because I enjoy singing, acting and dancing on stage. I also directed and choreographed several professional productions such as Disney's 101 Dalmatians, You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, and Ashes to Armageddon, a play that I also wrote.
When not on in the classroom or working on theatre projects, I enjoy running, hiking, and travel. I also love animals, especially dogs. A perfect day for me is hitting a wilderness trail with my husband, Paul, and our Labrador Retriever mix, Luke.
I'm looking forward to working with Carmody's students and families, to help them foster a love of the theatre arts as they grow socially, personally, and academically.
