TAB, or "Teaching Artistic Behavior" is a teaching philosophy. This is a creative problem solving, critical thinking, art-making process where the 3rd, 4th and 5th-grade classes CHOOSE a medium to explore their learning target. For example, if a third-grade student is exploring how colors relate to emotions, they can choose to perhaps make a warm color (happy) self-portrait or cool color (sad) self-portrait) using colored pencils, chalk, oil pastels, watercolors or acrylic paints. All 3rd, 4th and 5th graders will have this opportunity to stretch and explore as creative thinkers at the end of each trimester. I'm so excited to teach TAB and see their higher level thinking and creativity blossom! That said, please know that sometimes our exploration art making doesn't turn out the way we imagined it would during our planning stage, or it may have evolved into something totally different! At that point, I look to assess student thinking and their reflection on the process rather than the end product. It's more about the journey, not the destination!
