About Ms. Kennedy

I have been teaching for 14 years grades 1-5. I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development and Family Studies from Colorado State University, and then went on the get my K-6 teaching certificate from the Metropolitan State College of Denver. I obtained my endorsement in Gifted Education in 2016. I began my teaching career in 2005, in my home state, Colorful Colorado, in Jefferson County. In 2007, I decided to broaden my horizons and teach abroad. I knew I wanted to teach abroad after taking a multicultural education course at CSU. My professor had been an administrator in Turkey, and his stories and photos inspired me to take the big leap, leave Colorado and teach abroad. I had no idea I would land in the beautiful and energetic country, Brazil. But there I was and stayed for 7 years! Even I can’t believe it! I spent 3 years in southern Brazil teaching 3rd grade, then 4 years in Sao Paulo teaching 4th grade. Teaching abroad brought many challenges as well as triumphs. I missed my homeland, my family and friends everyday. But, I would not change any of my experience for the world. I am fluent in Portuguese and living there changed me and my teaching forever. In 2014, I decided to move back to Colorado where I spent another year teaching 4th grade in a charter school. In 2015, I was hired at Coronado Elementary in Jefferson County as the 4th grade gifted and talented center teacher. I fell IN LOVE with gifted ed. and cannot imagine a better fit for myself as a teacher! Now, I am absolutely thrilled to continue at Coronado Elementary as a GT center teacher with the amazing staff and students. Working at Coronado Elementary is an absolute joy, and I look forward to getting to know you and your children!

Every year I am forced by the nature of my class to change my lessons and approach to teaching. My class is always full of a range of cultural backgrounds, languages, passions, strengths and learning levels. Every year is different, the kids are different and therefore I must adapt to them, and let them show me what will work the best for their learning. I look forward to bringing new ideas and methods of learning to all of your children
