Basic Elementary Band Info

Interested in joining band? Find more information here!

How to Join:

For all interested 5th grade band students, please fill out the band registration form located in the side menu of this website. Thank you!

To help you decide what instrument you might be interested in, check out this video. The only instrument that is shown that we don't play in beginning band is the tuba. One instrument they didn't demonstrate is the oboe. Here is video of the oboe

Information Night

The beginning band and orchestra information night is Tuesday, August 29th, 2023 at Chatfield High School starting at 6:30. Mrs. Bock and Mrs. Cavaliere will be there to present information about the program and answer any questions.

If you are unable to attend the information night, please read the rest of this page and check out the other tabs on my website (on the left). Because students will try out the different instruments at their school (during the school day), we will not be trying out instruments at the info night. Also, a change from previous years - we will not be renting band instruments that evening. You can rent an instrument at your convenience from any local music store or for extra convenience online through Sweetwater. Please be sure to check out a list of quality instruments if you are looking at Craig's list or ordering online from somewhere other than Sweetwater (located on tab to the left entitled Elementary Classroom Documents). There are a lot of cheap instruments out there that don't work properly and make it difficult to play. Having a quality instrument can make all the difference in a child's band experience!

What every student needs

Instrument (plus extra reeds for clarinets, oboes and saxes, valve oil and slide grease for brass)

You can rent from Sweetwater  (your instrument will be delivered to your house) or a local music store.

Wire Music Stand for home practice and for concerts

School Instruments

Most families choose to rent instruments through Sweetwater or local music shops, but we have several school instruments reserved for students on the Free Lunch program, and for families with financial need. If you need to sign up for a school instrument, please email Mrs. Cavaliere. Families who rent from the school will need to sign a contract before the student will be allowed to take the instrument home.

Class Schedule

We meet twice a week for 40 minutes. We will start band the week of  September 2nd (starting on the 3rd due to Labor Day). For the first class, students do not need their instruments. We will go over how band will work this year and make sure that all students understand everything that they will need to bring to the second class. In order for students to not fall behind, the last day a student can sign up for band is the third class.
