What is a Chromebook and how is it different from a laptop?
Watch video "Introducing the Chromebook"
We already have a device. Can my student bring that to school instead of using the one from the District?
No, there are several reasons for this including: monitoring of devices in the classroom, ability to lock down web searches during testing, standardized functionality and more. Click here for more Opt-Out FAQs.
Our family previously purchased a device through an individual school in Jeffco. Can we get a refund for this device?
Yes. A buyback event is scheduled for August 26th.. Please attend if you would like a refund for a previously purchased device.
My student is on free and reduced lunch, do I still have to pay?
No, although you may be responsible for any loss or damage that isn't covered by warranty. If your student is on free and reduced lunch, you can either go onto Jeffco Connect to ensure the fee has been adjusted properly or contact Sue McElroy in the finance office. If you still need to apply for free and reduced lunch, go to this website for more information and to apply. There are also low-cost Internet options available.
What happens when a student leaves LHS?
If you are going to another Jeffco school, you may take your device with you.
If you are going to a school outside the district, you will need to return the device.
What are the expectations around appropriate use of the Chromebooks? What will the consequences be for misuse?
Students and families agreed to specific technology use expectations when registering through Jeffco Connect. Please review these HERE.
Discipline steps taken with regards to technology may involve meeting with parents, safety plans, or limited use of the devices for major infractions.
Families can use the SecurlyHome app to monitor student devices at home. Click HERE for more info.
Can students print from a Chromebook?
Yes, at school and at home when using a Google Cloud Printer.
Can a Chromebook be used offline?
Yes, but you will need to do a few things ahead of time when you are online.
Can I put stickers on my Chromebook?
Yes, students can decorate the plastic case with stickers. Students may not decorate or physically alter/customize the Chromebook itself, but decorating the protective case is encouraged so it's easy to distinguish one Chromebook from another. If the student leaves the district and has to turn in their Chromebook, the stickers must be able to be removed or they will be charged for a replacement case.
Can I remove the protective case?
No, the Chromebook is Jeffco's property and should remain in the protective case at all times. If students remove the case, the Chromebook will be confiscated & a protective case put back on it. A fee for an additional case will be assessed in Jeffco Connect.
Will students be using this device all day in all classes?
No. Teachers will be implementing technology mindfully.
Technology will be used when it is the best educational tool; however, not all learning happens best on a screen. Teachers will use the best research-based instructional practices--high-tech, low-tech, and no-tech--to expose students to a variety of learning experiences and to prepare them for future endeavors in college and/or careers.
Teachers will receive ongoing training from the EdTech Team throughout the school year.
