Jeffco Seal of Biliteracy

What is the Jeffco Seal of Biliteracy? The Jeffco Seal of Biliteracy is a recognition for graduating high school students who can demonstrate a high level of proficiency in at least one world language and English by high school graduation. The State of Colorado adopted the Diploma Endorsement for Biliteracy on March 30, 2017, setting the minimum criteria for districts to develop their own process and criteria. The class of 2019 will include the first students to earn the Jeffco Seal of Biliteracy.

Why should a student earn the Jeffco Seal of Biliteracy? The Jeffco Seal of Biliteracy is important because it will honor both the achievement of language acquisition and the heritage language, culture, and experience some students may already possess. It will encourage students to pursue the acquisition of another language or languages, and it will also give future employers and post-secondary institutions definitive evidence of a student’s language skills.

Who can earn the Jeffco Seal of Biliteracy? All Jeffco students are eligible and can work toward earning the Jeffco Seal of Biliteracy at any grade
