Human Resources and Benefits Resources
In association with the Jefcoed Foundation, Jefferson County School District has a very helpful and active mentoring program for new teachers. The program has many strengths, which include professional development for those mentors in the program so that they are leading and guiding new teachers with best practices, funds for substitutes when professional development is held, and more.
In the program, new teachers are partnered with a building-level mentor who meets with them about eight hours a month. They are also involved in monthly meetings with the lead building mentor and all other new teachers. Several opportunities are encouraged throughout the year for new teachers to visit other teachers' rooms for "buddy visits" and mentors come to observe and offer feedback before official walkthroughs and observations.
This program is intended to encourage and continually support new teachers in all areas of their experience during the first three years.
