Johnston Girls Basketball Update

The Johnston Girls Baskeball team will be losing 4 seniors this year. Zoey Buchan, Anna Gossling, Jada Gyamfi, and Mackenzie Lauridsen are going to be graduating this year.

Zoey Buchan is number 4 guard. Her IA rank is 1 her overall is 16-0. Zoey is hard to stop on the court. Zoey is very talented. Zoey also played for Iowa attack. Zoey earned most improved player and sharp shooter awards in 2020-2021.

Anna Gossling is number 20 guard. Anna also played for Iowa attack. Anna is probably one of our top shooters. Anna won team captain and defensive player of the year awards in 2020-2021.

Jada Gyamfi is number 42 forward. She is committing to the University of Iowa. Jada came from Urbandale to Johnston which she says had great impact on her. Jada won mvp,offensive player of the year, top rebounder, newcomer and most effective awards in 2020-2021.

Mackenzie Laurdisen is number 10 guard. Mackenzie has been part of the Johnston basketball team for 4 years. She plans to go to Augustana University next year in Sioux Falls, SD.

Swimming, but in water

How it works

In swimming, you have a team. And when you swim, there are events (what your swimming). Then there’s heats (when you swim). And last, but not least, there are lanes (where you swim). When you start a race, you jump off of the block into the water. After you finish, your team gets rewarded points for how fast you swam. Bigger teams have better chances of winning a meet. But if 2 teams have the same amount of swimmers, the team with the better swimmers will most likely win.

Equipment

When swimming, there are multiple different items you use. These include, pull bouys, kick board, goggles, fins, towel, swim cap, finally, a swimsuit. You don’t have to use a swim cap or towel, but it’s highly recommended. There are lanes lines, blocks, and water to swim in.

Why you should swim

You should swim because other than running, swimming is the best sport for losing weight. You should also swim because it isn’t hard to learn and it doesn’t take much energy to do it. It’s also a good ability to learn because you can run fast, but swim slow.

Super Bowl

We are days away from Super Bowl LVI. The teams that are in the Super Bowl are Bengals and the Rams. Their Quarterbacks are Joe Burrow for the Bengals and for the Rams Matthew Stafford. The Super Bowl happens every year. Last year the Buccaneers and the Chiefs played, and the Buccaneers came out on top. You win a ring if you win the Super Bowl. The chiefs got beat in the semifinals this year and so did the Buccaneers.

The World Series

A history of

The World Series occurred on October 19th 2021. The Braves beat the Astros in Game Six winning 4 of the 6 games.

Game one, the Braves beat the Astros 6-2. Houston ends up winning game two by 5. What a let down for Braves fans. But they get their hope back after winning the next two games. After the first 4 games it’s 3-1 with the Braves in the lead. The Astros held on in game 5 winning 9-5. Finally the Astros finish it off in game six winning 7-0.

Many Braves fans were happy but not just about their team winning. They were excited about showing the Astros they couldn’t win the world series without cheating even though the Nationals did it in 2019 . Having that, the Astros won a World Series by cheating.
