Summit's Garden Club

by Frederick S.

Hi everyone! I have interviewed Quinnlyn Schulte about the garden club and what they do and their hopes for this school year. Up next is the garden club student leader!

Frederick: What does the garden club do?

Quinnlyn: We plant seeds, harvest crops, donate food to people, get to listen to some awesome speakers, and most importantly have fun!

Frederick: If any, what seeds have you planted?

Quinnlyn: We have planted lettuce, kale, spinach, and radishes for the fall.

Frederick: What hopes do you have this year?

Quinnlyn: I hope to continue to expand our experiences to the pollination garden. I also hope that we can continue to impact the community positively by donating produce to the Johnston Partnership.

Frederick: What do you like about gardening?

Quinnlyn: It’s a really calming activity. It doesn’t matter what happened during the day, you just have a moment to be here, in the present. I also enjoy bringing the produce to the Johnston Partnership and seeing how happy the produce makes people.

Here’s a few photos of the school garden.

Summit Fundraiser

by Mason G.

Currently Summit is having an Unfundrasier. When the school gets all the money, they put it in the PTO account. To let everybody know they put it on the PTO Facebook page. They have currently raised about 14,000 dollars in all right now. They use the money to get teachers books and other classroom grants also and for our school lunch and for meals for the heartland and also for teacher appreciation because all the work that they do for kids everyday is hard. Mr Billings thought it was fun because he got silly stringed, And it was also great because everybody had fun, and so did Mr Billings.

When was your first meeting?

We had our first meeting on Monday October 18

Students get to solve challenging math problems and just talk math together when we meet. Tasks rotate between focusing on using specific math processes, using calculators, and using quick mental math.

How do you join?

To join, simply show up at our next meeting.

What are your goals for the team?

Our goals for the year are to beat the JMS team at chapter competition in February and to qualify for the state competition that follows in March.

Is there anyone helping you with these goals?

We have a strong group of returning 7th graders who I think will help our team do well as well as many very motivated 6th graders.
