The JMS Counseling Office staff are a wonderful resource for students and parents. They are skilled in providing assistance related to student mental health and well-being, focusing on outcomes that meet the social, emotional, and academic needs of students. Community Resources
The Johnston Partnership will operate our Food Pantry with a paper order form. After placing an order, clients will be asked to wait in their vehicles or outside while it is being completed. Call/email ahead orders are also welcome, using the forms attached to this post or found on our website. Email orders to andrea@johnstonpartnership.org or call in at 515-528-2379 or 515-868-1357.
Johnston Community School District has been approved to deliver a bundle of FREE LUNCH and BREAKFAST meals for the week for all children ages 1 – 18 years old at our three distribution sites. Each Monday from 12:00-12:30pm, drive up to any of the approved site locations for a five-day supply of free breakfast and lunch meals per child, offered until further notice.
Site locations are as follows:
Sterling Point Apartment Complex; 10509 Dorset Dr, Johnston
Meredith Dr Reform Church; 5126 Meredith Dr, Des Moines (North parking lot across the street from the church)
Chapel Ridge Apartment Complex; 6200 Clark Lane, Johnston

The University of Iowa is offering online and by-phone medical appointments. You do not need proof of insurance and can connect with a health provider for general health, medication refills, mental health counseling as well as treatments for some health conditions. Patients just need to call or text (319) 535-2684.
Services are available in English, Spanish, Arabic and French.
Mental Health Resources
Please Pass the Love has excellent resources on their website for students, staff and families. Students can access support “hang-outs” that are staffed by PPTL, there are both elementary and secondary options. There is a weekly adult support online option and also power learning classes on Fridays for staff members with Jen Ulie-Wells.
The district page includes SAP and EAP links, community service provider links as well as crisis resources. Resources specific to mental health and well being related to COVID-19 can also be found on the webpage.
The student assistance program (SAP) provides FREE short-term therapy services to all district students and their immediate families. While the intention is for a brief intervention to help identify any further need for services or resources, there is NO session limit for SAP. Staff will ensure students and their families get the help they need to address and resolve the identified issues.
