JCYC is an educational non-profit based in San Francisco, California. The main goal in the College Access Department is to service first-generation and low-income youth. Due to this, the two sister programs San Francisco College Access Center and Upward Bound have established branches at Thurgood Marshall Academic High School.
In 2020, it will be 50 years that our organization has been serving youth in San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area.
JCYC San Francisco College Access Center (JCYC SFCAC) is a state funded California Student Opportunity and Access Program (Cal-SOAP) of the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC), administered by JCYC. We serve low-income high school students who will be the first in their family to attend college. JCYC SFCAC offers year-round intensive services such as academic tutoring, college campus field trips, career exploration, college and financial aid advising, SAT prep, SAT/ACT waivers, and more!
JCYC Upward Bound (JCYC UB) is a federal pre-college TRIO Program that is funded by the U.S. Department of Education. The JCYC Upward Bound program was established in 1995 to provide high school students in San Francisco with comprehensive college and career preparation. The program targets low-income high school students who represent the first generation of college bound students in their respective families.
The year-round program serves 150 eligible students each year, offering an academic year of services and an intensive, six-week summer program. Students are recruited during their freshman and sophomore years and they continue participating until they graduate high school.
