APRIL 6, 2020

From Mark Heringer:

"Important Dates:

  • This week: This is the last week in which academic work will be optional. During this week, students and families need to:

    • Secure a Chromebook or laptop for their student to use.

    • Make sure their student has access to the internet.

    • Make sure their student has joined all of their classes’ Google Classrooms.

    • Students are encouraged to complete optional assignments provided by their teachers in Google Classroom.

  • Starting next week: Classes will be held online via Google Classroom. Participation and work completion will be mandatory.

Resources to Support Online Learning:

  • Chromebooks / Laptops:

    • The school has already provided over 170 families with a laptop or Chromebook. If you are still in need of one or if the one that has been provided to you is not working, please complete this quick survey.

    • TMAHS will be assigning and distributing computers to our students who do not have one at home on TOMORROW (April 7th) from 1:00 to 3:00pm at Thurgood Marshall. We ask that all families with students who are in need of a computer make arrangements to come to the Thurgood Marshall to pick up a device at this time. If you previously received a laptop that is not working, you can bring it to the school at this time so that we can swap it out with a new one.

  • Accessing the Internet:

    • Hot Spot: We are working with SFUSD to provide students who do not have internet access at home with a free hotspot. If you are in need of a hotspot, please complete this quick survey.

    • Free immediate internet access: Xfinity WiFi Free For Everyone: Xfinity WiFi hotspots located in businesses and outdoor locations across the country will be available to anyone who needs them for free – including non-Xfinity Internet subscribers. For a map of Xfinity WiFi hotspots, visit www.xfinity.com/wifi. Once at a hotspot, consumers should select the “xfinitywifi” network name in the list of available hotspots and then launch a browser.

  • Accessing Google Classroom:

    • Some teachers have already set up Google Classroom for students. However, starting April 13th students all will have access to each of their 7 classes in Google Classroom. Teachers will provide a join code to students via email. Students will use these codes to join their classrooms. Please refer to this informational video if you have more questions.

    • Here is a list of all teacher emails."

April 6, 2020: Afternoon

April 6, 2020: 12pm - Update from Mark Heringer, Principal of TMAHS:

"We miss you! We hope you are safe and well, and had the best spring break you could have under these circumstances. We understand that this is a difficult time and we’re here to support you.

Governor Gavin Newsom and State Superintendent Tony Thurmond announced that schools may stay closed for the rest of the year but state officials have not issued a directive. SFUSD's superintendent continues to work with other school superintendents, the SF Board of Education, and health officials to monitor the situation and will update families and staff if the closure timeline changes. As of right now, the school closure has NOT been extended past May 1st."
