A lot of scholarships require letters of recommendation. What is a letter of recommendation? It is a letter that a counselor, coach, teacher, supervisor or administrator can write that describes your character. It is a way for the scholarship committee to get evidence of why you deserve the scholarship.
Asking for a letter of recommendation is pretty easy:
Give your recommender AT LEAST 2 weeks to write your letter.
Ask someone that knows you: your favorite teacher, the advisor for a club you run, your sports coach, your manager at work, etc.
Follow up if you haven't heard anything from your recommender.
Fill out a "Recommendation Survey" where you give information about yourself: your grades, your interests, any personal information that is pertinent to the scholarship so that your recommender has an easier time writing your letter.
After you receive your letter, make sure to thank your recommender!
