The North Carolina Office of Career and Technical Education recognizes that honors-level courses are an integral component of a differentiated Career and Technical Education (CTE) program of study and provide an array of opportunities for all students based on their aptitudes, achievement, and interests. CTE inherently honors courses have a more rigorous and challenging curriculum than Standard level courses.
The benefit of taking honors courses is the boost in a students Grade Point Average (GPA). These classes add additional quality points onto their GPA, which can improve a students class rank. Taking multiple Honors, AP, or College classes show colleges, scholarship committees, and other programs that the classes taken in high school were of high rigor. Having a schedule that shows more rigorous classes make students more competitive for college acceptance and scholarships.
