What is Career Development? Why is it so important?
It's never too early to start thinking about your future and what career you might want to pursue! It can be an overwhelming process, but the earlier that you start considering careers, the more prepared you'll be to start making choices, decisions, and earning money!
Career Development is all about figuring out what you want to do in your professional life. It's not a one step task to complete, but a process that takes time. First you have to figure out what your interests are by getting to know yourself. Explore the different options that are out there-- there are so many more career opportunities available than what you may realize! Once you have explored careers and narrowed down those possibilities that best fit your interests and personality type, start to plan out what you would need to do to become successful in that career. Start setting goals, researching that career to find out the education level required and credentials and certifications that are needed. If you can start earning some of those credentials at the high school level through some of your CTE courses, take advantage of that! Learn more about community college classes that are offered that might also get you on the fast track to your career. Talk with your school counselors, teachers, and Career Development Coordinator that can help steer you in the right direction.
