The CFR 14 Part 107 Remote Pilot Certification, commonly known as the Part 107 certification, is issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and allows individuals to operate drones for commercial purposes in the U.S. airspace. This credential is earned in our Drone Technology I course and provides students with the credentials needed to operate drones professionally in compliance with FAA regulations.
Key aspects of the certification include:
Eligibility: To qualify, applicants must be at least 16 years old, pass a background check, and successfully complete an FAA-approved knowledge test.
Knowledge Test: The test covers critical topics such as airspace regulations, flight operations, weather, drone performance, and emergency procedures.
Operations: With a Part 107 certification, pilots can legally fly drones for commercial activities, such as photography, surveying, and inspections, as long as they follow the specific operational limitations set by the FAA.
Renewal: Pilots must renew the certification every 24 months by passing a recurrent test to stay updated on changes in regulations and safety practices.
