Jarrell ISD is proud to offer a two-way dual language immersion program to all students in grades Kindergarten (and Prekindergarten) - 5th grade. This program provides native Spanish speaking students and native English speaking students the opportunity to become biliterate by 5th grade. In the program students will develop oral and cognitive academic language proficiency in English and Spanish while mastering all grade level knowledge and skills as their peers in general education. The program is designed to teach children a second language in a natural way, through content instruction and everyday conversations.
In the classroom, teachers will deliver instruction in both Spanish and English based on the grade level instructional delivery model. Two-way dual language immersion is a program where both language students are being served concurrently. Our goal of the program is to provide students with an academically challenging classroom where they become bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural citizens.
Two-Way Dual Language Immersion will be offered at Double Creek Elementary , Jarrell Elementary, and Igo Elementary in PreK-5th grade.

In the 50/50 Dual Language Immersion (DLI) model, the target language is used for 50% of the instructional time and English is used for the remaining 50% of the time. This is considered a "simultaneous literacy" model, in which literacy in the two languages is developed simultaneously. The two-way immersion model integrates students of limited English proficiency with English proficient students.
