Universal screening through a brief assessment given to all students helps us identify students who experience lower-than-expected outcomes and may be at risk of not meeting grade-level standards by the end of the school year. Grades K-8 utilize iReady for universal screeners in reading and mathematics.
Circle testing is used with pre-kinder students to determine the readiness and effectiveness of our early education programs.
iReady Reading Measures:
Phonological Awareness: Ability to hear and manipulate sounds in spoken words (K-1).
Phonics: Understanding letter-sound relationships to decode words (K-3).
High-Frequency Words: Recognizing common words instantly (K-2).
Vocabulary: Knowledge of words and strategies for learning new words.
Comprehension (Literature): Understanding stories, characters, settings, summarizing, inferring.
Comprehension (Informational Text): Understanding non-fiction texts, main ideas, details.
iReady Math Measures:
Number & Operations: Basic arithmetic, fractions, decimals, place value, and understanding different number types.
Algebra & Algebraic Thinking: Patterns, variables, equations, inequalities, and problem-solving using symbols.
Geometry: Analyzing shapes, spatial reasoning, properties of figures, and logical thinking.
Measurement & Data: Units, time, length, volume, graphs, charts, statistics, and probability.
Circle
Circle testing, primarily the CIRCLE Progress Monitoring System (CPM), measures key early childhood development areas like literacy (letter sounds, print awareness), math (counting, comparing), science, social-emotional skills (motivation to read, creativity), and motor skills using direct tasks and teacher observations to track growth in pre-K and kindergarten. It provides a holistic view of a child's skills, guiding instruction and informing parents.
Key Areas Assessed
Literacy: Letter-sound correspondence, print awareness, story retell, phonological awareness, rapid naming, vocabulary.
Mathematics: Concepts like comparing quantities (more/less), ordinal numbers, and measurement.
Science: Core ideas in physical, life, and earth/space sciences.
Social-Emotional & Approaches to Learning: Curiosity, initiative, creativity, motivation to read, and self-expression.
Motor Skills: Fine and gross motor skills, early writing (letter formation, directionality).
Speech & Language: Sound discrimination, sentence structure, grammar.
