Standards Addressed At This Station
Science (NGSS)
3-PS2-3: Ask questions to determine cause and effect relationships of electric or magnetic interactions.
4-PS3-2: Make observations to provide evidence that energy can be transferred from place to place by electric currents.
5-PS1-3: Make observations and measurements to identify materials based on their properties (conductors vs. insulators).
Science Practices: Planning and carrying out investigations, analyzing and interpreting data
Crosscutting Concepts: Energy and Matter; Cause and Effect
Math (CCSS-M)
K.MD.1–2: Describe measurable attributes (e.g., comparing properties like dry vs. wet).
2.MD.10 / 3.MD.3: Collect and represent data (e.g., record which materials conducted electricity).
English Language Arts (CCSS-ELA)
RI.3–5.3: Follow procedural texts and understand sequences in scientific processes (video instructions).
W.3–5.7: Conduct short research or hands-on investigation to learn about conductivity.
SL.K–5.1: Participate in collaborative discussions to share investigation findings.
Technology (ISTE Standards for Students)
1.1 Empowered Learner: Use video tutorials to guide independent work.
1.4 Innovative Designer: Students explore and test open/closed circuit designs using Makey Makey.
1.5 Computational Thinker: Collect data and test different materials systematically.
1.6 Creative Communicator: Communicate findings using diagrams or digital tools (optional).
In this station students will test out if a material is conductive of electricity or not.
Have students watch the video
Have them go to a makey makey station
Have them grab different materials from the bin to test out if the material is conductive for electrons.
If the buzzer goes off than it is conductive, if the buzzer does not go off than it is not.
Makey Makey Kits (I used 5 for so I could have 5 different groups at a time)
Devices to hook up the makey makey kits and to play video
Materials to test
Pipe cleaner, Playdoh, silk Cloth, Wet towel, Dry towel, leather, plastic toy... the sky's the limit here.

Alternate Activity
Digital Citizenship Read Aloud with a Group
Read the story to the group
Talk about the reaction the main character had to different situations in the book.
