Jayne McDonald

My name is Jayne McDonald, and I have battled with lower back pain for many years. The pain was so disruptive that at times I carried a cushion around with me because sitting on hard chairs was unbearable. In my back rehab journey I had repeated visits to physio's that kept focussing on strengthening muscles. Whilst I did in fact get stronger, it did nothing to improve my back pain. In time I found "The Big 3" back exercises created by Prof. Stuart McGill was the only effective regime that helped. During the exercises it was easy to lose track of counting through the cycle and repetitions. It was then that I envisioned creating an audio fitness timer specifically for the Big3 exercises, to count the seconds, repetitions and exercise cycles for me, and to help others who suffer like I do.

I began working on an app. A few years earlier, I had started learning Unity programming and the C# language. Armed with this knowledge, I began developing Back Restore. Many hours were spent coding, sometimes lying on my stomach on the couch with my laptop propped up in front of me because sitting was too painful. Despite the challenges and moments of doubt, my determination never wavered.

This journey led to the creation of a back fitness timer based on my experiences and "The Big 3" exercises to ensure safety and effectiveness. My goal is simple: to provide a tool that could assist with the three back exercises and improve back health.

For me, it wasn’t just about overcoming my own pain; it was about offering hope and relief to others. You don't have to have back pain to use this app, but you can safe guard future back problems by using this every week day as preventative maintenance. I hope my app can help others on their path to better back health.
