These simplified tips should help you better prepare for the computer science concept external exam and aim for Merit and Excellence grades.
1. Show What You Know:
Practice applying your knowledge in your answers to demonstrate a deep understanding.
2. Clear Explanations:
Explain concepts clearly in your own words, avoiding jargon and overcomplicating things - do not assume that the reader knows anything about the concept.
3. Go Deep, Not Shallow:
Offer at least two different aspects in your responses. Don't focus on just one aspect for all parts of a question - give at least 2 different answers in each big box.
4. Principles, Not Just Coding:
Focus on understanding the principles behind topics rather than just coding them. Explain in a way a younger student could understand.
5. Stay Updated:
Be aware that the standards for Merit and Excellence can change. Stay informed and adapt your answers accordingly.
6. Practice Variety:
Practice answering different types of questions to improve your skills in various areas.
7. Balance Depth and Clarity:
Find a balance between providing in-depth information and maintaining clarity in your answers.

Utilize available resources and guidance, such as exemplars, this website, CS Field guide
The Resource Booklet given for the exam should help guide your answers.
9. Watch Your Word Limit:
Keep your responses within the specified word limit.
Achieved: 800 words, usually questions a and b
Merit and Excellence combined: 700 words (split between the two sections as needed) ~ 350 words for c and d, respectively.
