Kindergarten - 2nd Grade Lessons
Unit Two - Session One
Students learn the different ways that people contribute to their local community. They also spend time thinking about their skills and how they can use them to help other people. At the end of the session, students have the chance to get creative and make their own "hot mess" painting.

Unit Two - Session Two
Students begin to understand how people earn money to buy the things they need and want. They also learn how people explore many different options to find a career that they truly enjoy. At the end of the session, students design a unique "donut" that they can use to play games with friends and family.

Unit Two - Session Three
This session focuses on businesses we see in a community and how government works for the people who live in that community. Students begin to understand how citizens choose leaders to run the government and how those leaders make rules and laws that protect every citizen. Students also learn how government leaders give back to the community.

Unit Two - Session Four
In this lesson, students learn about the decision-making process and how they make decisions every day. They also begin to understand what it means to vote and why responsible citizens vote to select leaders who will meet their community's needs. At the end of the session, students create their own "get out the vote" cards to share with family members and neighbors

Unit Two - Session Five
Students learn about money and how to identify different coins and bills. They hear a story about a "big idea" that required people to raise money. Later on, students have the chance to create their very own piggy bank so they can save money to buy the things they need and want.
