‘Wildfire’ is a cultivated variety of Black Gum known for its striking red new growth. It typically grows 30–50 feet tall and is valued for ornamental use.
The tree has glossy, oval-shaped leaves that emerge bright red before turning green in summer.
In fall, the foliage turns vivid shades of red. The tree may produce small blue fruits (drupes—fleshy fruits with a pit) that attract birds. ‘Wildfire’ Black Gum is valued for its extended seasonal color and adaptability.
